Enjoy!Kathy Johttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06817871047645402866noreply@blogger.comBlogger32125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5587332709794460182.post-18113404935262782982008-02-22T03:20:00.000-06:002008-02-22T03:45:02.919-06:00A Busy GirlI finally got my act together and did some swap cards - way before they were due! Now to remember to put the postage in the envelopes before I send them off ;)

Here's the run down and before I forget, all swaps are at Split Coast Stampers.

This was a card I sent to my Little Sister over at Split Coast Stampers. It's a real neat program they run every three months. You are paired off with someone for three months and get to spoil someone as their Big Sister, and answer stamping questions etc. if they should come up. You can also be a Little Sister at the same time and get spoiled while you are spoiling someone else.

Another card I did for my Little Sister. The Cuddlebug is a machine that either cuts images or embosses cards and cardstock. One of the embossing plates I had was a birthday one, so stamped the cake stand and layered it on top of black strip of cardstock that was layered on top of the embossed card. I loved the black and red combination. I think it turned out real well.Kathy Johttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06817871047645402866noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5587332709794460182.post-39168330748504971802008-01-25T22:47:00.000-06:002008-01-25T22:55:36.695-06:00Tada...I know it's been almost a month since I've posted anything, but rest assured I've been busy. What makes it really nice is all I have to do is assemble them, the stamping has already been done!

Kathy Johttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06817871047645402866noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5587332709794460182.post-48388875846632275012007-12-04T21:13:00.000-06:002007-12-04T21:31:24.892-06:00New cards

This week has really seen a variety of card making, whether I liked it or not. I always feel so sad when I'm making sympathy cards, only because I feel the hurt the receiver is feeling.

The first card is my brothers late birthday card - real late birthday card. His 51st, or is it 52ND?, birthday was Saturday Dec. 1st and I feel awful he didn't get it in time. I'm just now getting enough strength to last all day without feeling like I'm dying. The inside of the card says in Dog years...you're dead ;) I'm also sending him a gushy card, but didn't have it done in time for picture taking. I'll try to post it in the next day or two.

The last picture is of a sympathy card I made for my daughter's fiancee. He recently lost his father and I was very sad to learn of it. Loosing a parent is not easy, no matter how old you are at the time. I also made one for his mother, but neglected to take a picture of it.

The second picture is of one of my sample Christmas cards. Since I'm so late in getting them done, (but then again what year aren't I?) I made a smart decision yesterday. I'm only going to make them for family and friends. The cards Jerry exchanges at work, well those are going to be box cards this year -with the exception of our close friends.

I have so much to do, rather to make, but my muse is definitely on Christmas vacation. I'm hoping hoping hoping she turns up here real soon as I really need to get busy. I got out the first round for the month, and the last half of the month was quickly baring down on me. With Thanksgiving right around the corner, along with my sister's 50th birthday - I HAD to get cards out in the mail - and soon!

So here you have my latest contribution. I can't say they are originals as I CASED them from my local LSS. They were done in various classes the last few months and I either did them with the kits I purchased (complete with step by step instructions) or I got them from pictures online.

Hope you enjoy them!

KathyKathy Johttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06817871047645402866noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5587332709794460182.post-64486628962853423862007-11-12T00:17:00.000-06:002008-01-25T22:57:37.535-06:00Lots and lots of news - and a catch up!

Let's face it, I'm an awful blogger! I get good at updating it for a bit of time, then I disappear for a bit, then I'm back at it. The sad thing is while I'm away I'm constantly reminding myself I need to up date it! It's awful! Tonight, inspite of having the beginnings of the flu or an awful cold and bronchitis (I think it's the later) I decided to get my fingers busy and update the darn thing.

The pictures above are cards I made last month. Sadly I forgot to take pictures of the three birthday cards I sent out the beginning of the month so I don't have them for my collection. I actually have a portfolio of all my work and am actually quite proud of it. I like looking back at things I've made - it gives me motivation and ideas believe it or not.

The weather has turned cold down here in Alabama and we actually had two nights of hard freezes last week. Knowing my love of the colder weather, I took full advantage of each cool day. When I put my sweats on for the first time I felt the amazing comfortable feeling overcome me. There is nothing like wearing a pair of sweats that are a tad to big, a long t shirt and a baggy sweatshirt layered over the tshirt....so the bottom of the t shirt shows. I know, the total slob look -but it's comfy!

I got a the new Silhouette from Quickutz and am in seventh heaven. It's a die cutting machine that is hooked up to your computer. It will cut any design you have on the PC as well as any true font. Which means I can now cut out sayings like Happy Birthday, Get Well Soon, and things like that for cards, and can cut out titles for my scrapbook pages. Now to get busy and actually use it! I've not done any creating in the last few weeks and am definetly feeling the pull to do so.

Until tomorrow - I promise!

Kathy and the boysKathy Johttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06817871047645402866noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5587332709794460182.post-50219804235495424302007-09-21T15:00:00.000-05:002007-09-21T15:03:00.738-05:00Two pocket folder planner<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgg5P6VilUUQTQj1DDpZWCJSzrVcq5dNCWnjl7fwNpm-3xupxGkpr9tfb0ZhtVgRSAiwp4WEZI1KPlZDiUSMM3vATf9WjQtQFfYvqHHoNLhsSBAEBczlsourZXrgyCFnHkxWpU5ewErrFQ/s320/Planner.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5112749969830580962" />

I found this on the net and thought I would share it. It would make a great teacher's gift for Christmas, a great neighbor's gift...the ideas are endless!

Check out this fun planner created from a TWO POCKET FOLDER! Can you beleive it?! It's just a folder! You know, the ones that were just $.05 during the back-to-school sales? This one uses SU!'s fabulously yummy "Apple Cidar" Designer Series Paper found in the Holiday Mini Catalog. The folder was simply folded BACKWARD and then accordian folded foward on each side. There is a large open ended envelope cut just at the top for "receipts" and another cut just a bit more than half for "stuff." I also included some note paper (can you believe I found a matching clippy?!). And there is also a 2008 calendar with plenty of room for notes. I am LOVIN' this little planner!Kathy Johttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06817871047645402866noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5587332709794460182.post-68457997713747335722007-08-15T15:27:00.000-05:002007-08-15T15:38:46.882-05:00A Beautiful Journey<img style="float:left; I didn't make the class because it involved 4 hours, but got the kit instead and worked on it at home. It took time as I just did a page or two a day, until yesterday. My muse was screaming so I stayed in my studio all day and evening and finished it right before I went to bed.
I'm really happy with it and can't wait to start filling it. I didn't follow the instructions to the T and made minor adjustments or replacement items along the way. I tend to do that with projects that have explict instructions :) LOL
Hope you enjoy it! And if you would like a copy of the instructions let me know and I'll email it to you. The base of the album is a 9x9 three ring binfer type album with tabbed matboards inside. You can use just about any line you want to decorate it but the pictures in the instructions would give you the layouts.

Oh....and this one is for ME! :)Kathy Johttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06817871047645402866noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5587332709794460182.post-86072428693760558082007-08-14T22:57:00.000-05:002007-08-14T23:04:26.300-05:00Sorry about that....<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkimUFgilW_PXURk1PEmRku42Dg5OIEJ4xT-lx_M51Pmut5-aO6YsvWIkC4AazkvNirOpsdo2bxdYzb1xVfDZqNQTseqQZBF-rhuJ1gDT5eUXgpyaAb1jBCoWmyBByhV8TMIG0gjR0WK8/s320/100_0880.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5098772504647566242" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0It5Faq1-qjHpdK8SNkQsobapmas3vd-BBZHSdnYfgxcCNxMgK_2dzqmWpmOYhuk_UhyJqHkeASkhrdnGmarbzFiIhu6W2hTPEgf1GYHwxNJwD6HhyDJTEQtSTkd2n1QOVC46BKnPg74/s320/100_0878.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5098772328553907090" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwUykDnECR5dZ37FVLpCwHHp7KBBQ4QndqKtLuFUwauj9yR-ffF7T2ixSXOX21qAsuA_HD2g1J9FmRtwyoZckKX-TVqgtUynEKEeJNvmxfl9N_CZRF0NFFpP3AFZanytGNHmu2TjcQB_g/s320/100_0877.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5098772165345149826" />
I know I promised to post a picture of the project I finished several days ago, and well, there's no excuse except I started yet another huge project this time and just finihsed it tonight. I did take pictures though - so guess what? I'm going to post the picture of the receipe box designed by Beth Cote and made by me!

There are decorated index cards inside that can be used as divider cards as well. I LOVE the little charms on the top of the lid! Sad I know. Like any artist, writer or anyone that does anything creative, the mood just hasn't been there. The mysterious mood HAS to be there in order to get anything worthwhile done.

I started working on a kit by Beth Cote I got last year and even it took a back seat to all the happenings in the house. I finished it tonight and will post the pictures tomorrow. I still have a little painting to do and will do that in the morning after I've gotten some sleep. I've learned the hard way you don't paint when your eyes are burning and your tired :)

The biggest happening that's kept me busy is Jerry turning 50 yesterday. A very good friend of his and mine helped organize a small dinner for him at O'Charley's. We thought maybe 10 people were coming and it turned out to be 20 plus guests - all co-workers of Jerry and he had been either stationed with half of them in the Army and the other half were his instructors as he went through EOD school 20+ years ago! I thought I thought we would be there for an hour or so, and before we knew it three (3) hours had passed! I couldn't believe it. Everyone had a good time and it was still the talk at work today. What a wonderful way to spend your 50th birthday - with old friends.

On the family side his mom called and he got to visit with his oldest son after we got home. His daughter called today as she had forgotten and/or had gotten busy with her baby. As a matter of fact I know she went to bed real early last night and calling was the last thing on her mind.

It's been so bloody hot here its unbearable. AT 7 p.m. tonight it was still 100 degrees. Yes, triple digits. The awful thing is Jerry is out working in it every day. He had range duty this week and on top of being out in the triple digits he was walking 10 miles a day up and down the range. The dogs didn't even want to go out in it. They would step out into the yard and would scurry back into the coolness of the house. My poor heat pump is having an awful time trying to keep up with the heat. I just stay inside and have fans going in practically every room.

Well that's about it for the night. I'm beat and its time for bed. I'll post a picture of my newest project in the morning and let you know what I'm going to be working on next. Oh..... I did manage to get Jerry's birthday card made yesterday and will take a picture of that as well. I need to anyway so I can add it to my portfolio. :)

Night.Kathy Johttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06817871047645402866noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5587332709794460182.post-31304811598646560172007-08-01T19:38:00.000-05:002007-08-01T19:52:32.614-05:00Midweek humpThat's what I feel like to day - I honestly do. I thought, and the key word was thought, I was getting my hair cut today, but it turns out it's not until Friday. <g> That's okay, got my nails done and bought some more awesome jewelry so I'm happy again.

I'm in the middle of working on a project Beth Cote designed for the Simply Southern Scrapbook Convention last year. Yes, I've had the project sitting around here for just about that long. I dug into my project tote this afternoon and pulled out hers. It's a really cool altere receipe box and this time instead of keeping it, I think I'm going to either RAK it or give it as a Christmas gift. Not sure yet.

I should have it done in the next day or two. Tomorrow is errand day and Friday is hair cut/trim day. I'll have to work on it in-between those fun filled days ;)

Other than that, all is good on this front. The dogs are going to a play date tomorrow so I get a few things done around here without them under foot. Jerry and I talked about getting a pool table for the family room and since his birthday is next week...I'm seriously considering it. I haven't played pool since high school but it would be fun to learn again!

Jerry has also agreed to be my personal trainer!!! This is going to be fun - an ex died in the wool, cut me and I bleed green or tan BDU's Army guy pushing and encouraging me while I do exercises. this will either make our marriage more strong or break it ;) I'm bent on loosing this weight so I can get rid of the diabetes that's raging through my body and help increase my HDL's. lower my tryclcerides and help lower my LDL's - and to get healthier overall. What fun it's going to be shoping for new clothes!!!

Back to creating - see ya tomorrow!Kathy Johttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06817871047645402866noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5587332709794460182.post-65479371668717618182007-07-30T16:08:00.000-05:002007-07-30T16:17:43.626-05:00Monday's ATC's<img style="float:left; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYRPExu1J1RvEKLhMcW9849IUyQiyLSbv-VXM-bjEVZX5K8CVIzg2NrpGUL-n1ZH4mqwF0wOsEz_1pYOwt7j72HdUnW5QM8UdULVogDnWUCjd9tL0iShgOYmETp5ze5opuYnxb-HubEfc/s320/100_0876.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5093101163541955442" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIpJ3lFrxu4HrzE23N3g-sAaS_86AyRZ4z_SMfuRNY40ePILIPwAHDDqQEJDmk6DOGbvVhgJvrR1MH-XVappTyNeGSa2o9ggj2HxGjpzz4Gsr6Ry6EbE88Ku8pjJS2hB5ku-8w_ebq5B8/s320/100_0875.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5093101051872805730" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgB3HvvvKkEv2EKM4yA4rhwHBEdyhwD9JvAGoiT2dOBehloBknvks-IzjE5ub4Eupj6xZbIU5vWiPYvkSdr52Vccmue8WNMSJZ8_N9h206fwyvJ3dEIN0gQGP_ah2RQWMCHB6WkYJrZdGs/s320/100_0874.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5093100905843917650" />

Anyway, for your viewing pleasure, three ATC's I created between this morning and this afternoon. Get ready for some awesome artwork - at least that's the intention. <g>

Sorry I didn't post my ATCs last night, I'll be sure and include them in today's posts. I got busy snuggling with hubby after dinner and didn't give the computer another thought. Somehow sitting next to him and enjoying his arm around me takes presatence :) Isn't it great that after 16 and a half years of marriage we still feel that way about each other? I think so!

Ok, I'm off to stamp and create some goodies. I'm in the mood and the creativeness is oozing out of me this morning. Can't ignore it like I can the pile of laundry that needs doing today. ;)Kathy Johttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06817871047645402866noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5587332709794460182.post-19024552283894709082007-07-29T17:23:00.000-05:002007-07-29T17:27:05.540-05:00WeekendsWhy is it that Saturdays and Sundays seem to suck the life right out of you? This is the second week in a row it's happened. I've had grand plans and it's all I can do to keep my eyes open. Here it is time to make supper and I've not done a darn thing. Nothing. Nada. Except sleep and watch a few cornball movies on HBO and my DVR.

I am going to post a few past projects as soon as I finish making supper for hubby. He had the dragbut symptoms today too but got at least a few things done. LOL He's in there now starting supper so I gotta run. Back in a few - promise. The book I did tonight had at least four or five different patterned paper used on the front and back.Kathy Johttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06817871047645402866noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5587332709794460182.post-46484694102869378182007-07-27T23:23:00.000-05:002007-07-28T00:01:27.523-05:00What fun!

I was invited to a class tonight held by a friend I met during a Crafters Basement sale earilier this yearand I had a ball. I was excited about going because of seeing Kelly again, but also because it meant getting out of the house and meeting new people. I already knew a few that go to her classes so this was a chance to meet even more, especially one that Kelly knew I would love.

Turns out Gayl has the same love I do for anything old, for ATCs, for tons of stuff. We have so much in common that it threw both of us for a loop. We chatted all night while we made our notebooks. :) I had so much fun and am so glad I decided to venture out of the house for a few hours. I so need to do that more often, when the drugs allow me that is :)

Anyway, we covered composition books tonight and I brought my own paper and embellishments. I wanted to use some of the things I had gotten in my monthly kit from Scrapbook Obsessions (the link to this WONDERFUL store is to the right). Of course it was Bo Bunny paper and had that feel and look I love so much, that it wasn't hard not to use it!

The notebook above is what came out of my evening of fun :) How could you create something this pretty and call it work?

To be honest with you I took the layout of the papers from an already made layout including in the coordinating 6x6 paper pad I got with my kit. I just didn't allow for the space for the picture. Once again it goes to prove you can use layouts, pictures anything you want, for anything.

It was very easy to make the notebook and here's how we did it.

1. Take a black and white composition book from Wal-mart or anywhere you happen to find them. They're usually located in the school aisle and have a black binding along the edge. Regular spaced notebook paper is bound inside.

2. Decide on what kind of scrapbook you want to use, coordinate the colors and choose at least two. The girls tonight had patterned paper on the bottom and coordinating cardstock on the top. Coordinating ribbon divided the two. The backside of the notebook had the same papers but was reversed.

3. I laid out my paper against the edges of the book covering the inside covers with plain cardstock. The girls folded their papers over the edge and then put colored cardstock down covering the folded paper. I used paper adhesive, really a tape runner, once I got laid out the pieces of paper in the manner I wanted them, making sure to trim any excess paper from the edges. The thin red paper you see dividing the different patterns is Bazill cardstock trimmed into thin strips. I chose to use paper instead of ribbons just to make sure it laid nicely.

4. Once you have the paper the way you want it, slop a ton of Modge Podge on top of it! LOL Seriously, take a foam brush and paint the Modge Podge all over the book making sure to pay close attention to any folds, any loose paper and any edges. It goes on white but dries clear (and quickly I might add) and adheres the paper in place forever. It also adds a protective element to your book and water will not ruin it.

5. After the Modge Podge dries, add an embellishment elements you want to use. Anything is game and it's up to your imagination. The flower on my book was glued down with a tape runner and the chipboard letters where adhered by adding Modge Podge to the backs of each letter. Modge Podge is also a wonderful glue! Every thing used on my book comes from the Bo Bunny Anna Sophia collection with the exception of the chipboard letters which are Cosmo Cricket. The memories clip is from the Narratives collection of Karen Russell with Creative Imaginations.

6. Cover the embellishments with another coat of Modge Podge and let dry. You're done. Easy huh? Total cost for the project was under $5 and can be used for anything you want. Even note from classes at school - or scrapbook stores.

You can make these notebooks as simple or as elaborate as you want. It's up to you. It takes about an hour and a half to make the book, not counting drying time. They make wonderful last minute gifts and can be used for anything at all. Last year I made several as Christmas gifts for my neice and nephew and have made several for thank you gifts. You can also stamp on the front of the book (if you have plain cardstock where the image will show) as well.

Kathy Johttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06817871047645402866noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5587332709794460182.post-73041252794433949642007-07-24T13:34:00.000-05:002007-07-24T13:51:58.975-05:00Whew...So, after letting two months pass on here without posting, I couldn't wait to get my pictures of up my last two projects. I'll be uploading some scrapbook pages I've done recently here real soon, within the next few days at least.

Things have been wild around the house with Jerry going TDY for a week, me going through higher pain levels for some odd reason, increasing the Fentayl patch amount, getting diagnosised - finally - with diabetes (I knew it was coming from the way all my numbers were looking the past few years, and I had several risk factors that made me more prone to get it) and learning how to eat healthy, wisely and in a manner that kept my blood sugar numbers down, working in the garden and finally getting into an exercise routine around here and a half a dozen other things that crept up day to day.

At least it's calmed down now which is a good thing. It's time I started to look after me. I've given many years to my family and it's time to quit putting me to the back or to the bottom of the list. I've had another birthday since I last posted and that birthday really made me sit up and take a look at myself. I'm 52 now and am leading the life I've always wanted to live. If I don't do something about my health overall, I won't be here long to enjoy it. That and I decided I wanted a little pampering. So, for my birthday present to myself I spent the day at a local spa. :) I had my first facial, got a pedicure and had my nails done. A few days prior to that I got my hair highlighted and cut, the beginning of the new me.

I've worked out a schedule of sorts for the things I need to do around the house, and have alloted plenty of studio time. I kept thinking why did I spent 2 months getting it just the way I wanted if I wasn't going to spend time in here creating? That and I had all these wonderful stamps and supplies that it was about time I started using them up. Either that or sell them.

Which btw, I had a garage sale the first of the month and got rid of quite a few extra scrapping and stamping supplies. What didn't sell went to a friends house and was included in her three day sale. I got rid of even more! Both of those sales were what paid for my haircut/hairlighting and day at the spa. Even trade if you ask me! LOL

The dogs also made their yearly trip to the vet where we discovered both were a tad overweight. Kanasas was a pound and a half over weight (Give me a break! But then again it shows on him since he is so little!) and Rascal was four pounds over weight. So we have taken to the streets the three of us and walk at least a mile daily. We're up to a mile and a half actually and they love it. All I have to do is mention the word Walk and they are at the door ready to go! Gotta love their enthusiasm!

So, what's next to come out of my studio? Well I'm working on a huge journal from Bo Bunny Press, I've got a lunch box I'm making for a gift, I've got cards to make for a ton of upcoming birthdays, and have an altered book to put together. All that in addition to working on scrapbooks for my grandchildren. I have four huge 12x12 ones for my daughter that she will inhert when I pass, and am doing 8x8 albums for the grandkids. Oh....Allora called me Nanna the other day!!!! She also called Jerry Papaw - all without prompting! I love that little monkey so much and wish with tons of wishes she was closer so I could be a grandmother to her.

More than that I wish my daughter had a child, then I could really be a grandmother instead of the only step grandmother in the family and at the bottom of the list when it comes to the three grandmothers she has. sighh. Oh well I'm not complaining at all. Maybe one day Jessica will have a baby. I know her dad would love to be a grandpa...very much so!

So, there you have the highlights of the last few months. Scroll down and take a peek at my first Round Robin Altered Book and a Sewing box I made from a hatbox shaped lunchbox. Six other artists in the group worked on my book and had examples to go by to give them ideas.
The pictures you see here are pages I did, along with the sign in page made with dog bones :-}/ I had so much fun working in everyone elses' book, I could hardly wait to see what they had done with mine. As I explained in the instructions, In the Dog House could be taken so may ways, and I left it up to their imagination as to how they wanted to work their pages.
The next post, or couple of posts, will show the work from the other talented ladies. They did some AWESOME work and I'm so proud to have an example of their work in my collection.
I'll cherish this book forever :)
Once I got it back I covered it in paw themed scrapbook paper just like I did all those years in school covering text books. Then I added a few embellishments to the front and called it good. I love it and it's proudly on display in my studio. Now to finish up the other altered book/tip-in I particpated in!Kathy Johttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06817871047645402866noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5587332709794460182.post-21221684822844956492007-07-24T13:02:00.000-05:002007-07-24T13:59:29.853-05:00New Sewing Box

I don't know where June and July went, but went they did! All I know is I was busy as heck doing this and that and for some reason my studio stayed empty - except for the few times I was in here organizing or cleaning - for the upteenth time.

Anyway, I finally did something for me, a sewing kit from one of the hatbox lunch boxes from Provo Craft. Considering I've done at least a dozen of these lunchbox this was one was snap to do. It's the first time I've done a hatbox one though, and loved the challenge.

I covered it with scrapbook paper I have had on hand forever that contains a sewing theme of sorts. I decorated it with both rubons, buttons, charms and other embellishements I had laying around - in addition to stamped images that were cut out and applied.

I took several rubons and put them on white cardstock, then I cut them out and pop dotted a few of them to the top of the lunchbox so they would stand out and give it some depth. The spool of thread was one of the rubons I did that with. I also stamped several images, cut them out and either laid them flat to the box or used pop dots to add depth along the sides of the box.

Right now it houses my misc. sewing items like needles for my sewing machine, thread I used to make curtains with, a thimble and bobbins loaded with different colors of thread.

I love it and can't wait to display it in my family room. I have pictures of them on a table in the foyer which greets our guests as they arrive. I have this very picture cut down into a small round frame on my desk that I got a Hobby Lobby. I love it when they put frames on sale, which they do often I might add. This frame has some bling to it and has a faux collar around the glass. The buckle has the bling on it and has a small charm that hangs from the side.

Anyway, on to the title. I quite frequently order stamps and supplies online and get to meet quite a variet of shopkeepers. Once in while a connection is made and a friendship is started. That's what happened with Jackie at Alteredpages.com and now we are great midnight chatting/email buddies :)

Well it happened again tonight. I had placed an order with
www.firecrackerdesignsbypamela.com/index.html a few weeks ago and sent her a check. She got it today and discovered I was in Huntsville, a place she has been to and who has family still here! Pamela is coming to town next week and we've made plans to connect and have lunch. I'm so excited!! She sounds like such a terrific person and we have so much in common, including coming from military families. Of course that's not to uncommon around this area with the Arsenal here <g>.

I'm working on a sympathy card tonight for my brother-in-law who lost his mother Sunday morning. It brought back all kinds of memories for me, as I'm sure it did my sister. She's so strong though and such a rock. With all that Karen does it just amazes me how much she gets accomplished each day. It's just amazing.

Well back to card making - more tomorrow I promise and I'll have pictures of cards and scrapbook pages!

Until then....
KathyKathy Johttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06817871047645402866noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5587332709794460182.post-53454603620827385402007-05-21T00:07:00.000-05:002007-07-31T15:56:46.834-05:00<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNimA-pyyQCEbF-6UFVx4wN9icB_sSptWPD9WQAaa-avFZ9KRgY1MZp9WHKEqC5_bqFDVvhEtBSZ6ITbV3M3Y3zL4smuNSEVRihJxt5fHe0uV2c8k62BOTUTxDC3Uh19yJPwn1jRKSyZo/s320/100_0484.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5066876606052126098" />

Here he is...Jerob Wayne Addison. He was born Jan. 29th in Vezencia Italy and hit stateside for the first time May 9th. His dad got out of the Army and returned home to make a new life for his family.
Jerob is named after my husband Jerry (his mom is my step-daughter and Jerry's only daughter) and a step-father that died many years ago. Adriane wanted to honor both the men in her life that raised her and hit upon combining thier names. Wayne is a family name and is the middle name of Adriane's grandfather and father. Needless to say Jerry was one very proud grandpa when he was told about his namesake and smiled for days. :)

I love little babies. I love the way they smile, the way they smell after a bath, the way their eyes explore the world, the way their little hands grab onto yours with such strength. I just wish little babies never grew up, but then again that wouldn't be much fun now would it? LOL

Until tomorrow -Kathy Johttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06817871047645402866noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5587332709794460182.post-57414926944070304652007-05-20T23:57:00.000-05:002007-05-21T00:06:50.907-05:00Way to LongI HAVE to quit letting too much time pass before posting here. I really do miss it when I don't. Silly I know, but I do. I have no idea who reads this, if anyone, but since it matters to me, well it's important <g>.
I still haven't had a chance to scan the layouts I've done this month, but I can assure you it's on the top of my list of things to do tomorrow! I've even been to another crop since I posted last - yes that makes 2 in one month!!!! OMG!!! LOL I'd had forgotten just how much fun they can be, especially when the ones you go to are attended by old friends, not to mention the new ones you meet along the way.

The big news is I now have pictures of my grandson. I'll post a picture of that cutie before I go to bed so all can see what a doll he is. I was so excited when I got to hold him that I honestly didn't want to put him down. Of course that was until I smelled a dirty diaper in the making and promptly handed him over to dad! Now that was the best part of the whole visit!!! LOL

I cleaned my studio today in anticipation of much playing this week - and next - due to some very happy news I got this weekend. My neighbor who happens to be my age quit her job and will be staying home as of one week from tomorrow. Turns out she loves to scrapbook and has done a few books herself. She fell over when she walked into my studio and couldn't want to get in here to play - especially after I showed her all my dog and cat stuff I've made to sell on etsy. It's going to be so much fun having Jane around this summer...the dogs can play (she has 3 HUGE dogs that the boys love to play with) while we catch some rays, we can create in the studio when it gets to hot to be outside, go shopping, catch a movie together, talk kids and grandkids, just plain have a great time. I can't wait :)

Until tomorrow -Kathy Johttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06817871047645402866noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5587332709794460182.post-780234984135437762007-05-06T23:14:00.000-05:002007-05-06T23:32:32.785-05:00I'm to old for this!LOL

I have to laugh at the title only because I never admit to my age, or at least I try not to. I never act my age, I don't look my age, and I sure don't feel my age - until I go through the weekend I just did!

It was National Scrapbooking Day/Weekend this weekend and of course I had to participate - as I always do. I went to a two day crop at my local scrapbook store and had a BLAST! This time I signed up early and signed up to be in the classroom located in the store. The last two years I've been down at the other end of the strip mall where Peggy rents out two additional space to accomodate everyone.

I'm so glad I signed up where I did. I was so thrilled to see two old friends of mine sitting right behind me, and ended up meeting several new friends. Pam and Faye are my age and are a riot to say the least. I haven't laughed this much in years and I felt so relaxed! I ran into another girl in the room that had hosted a basement craft sale last year that I happend to stumble upon. Kelly is a doll and I'm so glad I had the chance to get to know her better. Turns out we have a lot in common and she makes creates some awesome layouts! I got to help Cindy learn more about embossing and three of us headed out at lunch to Hobby Lobby to pick up some much needed supplies for that specific technique. I did so good at Hobby Lobby and spent next to nothing. I didn't even require a buggy!!! The world has ended for sure! LOL

I worked on my granddaughter's album and added pages for photographs I didn't have - that were now several years old. I'll have to rework her album a bit, but that's not a problem. I loved doing them and seeing Allora for the weekend, even if it was just in pictures. :) The time will come soon enough that Nanna can snuggle with her and shower her in kisses.

I spent the entire day on the couch today and napped off and on. Staying up to 3 a.m. two days in a row did me in. I didn't get home before midnight Friday night or Saturday and it took a while to wind down before bed. I was up and at it again early for me Saturday morning and worked non-stop on my layouts. I loved every minute of it too. I'm just glad that weekend only happens once a year!

I'm going to be cropping with these ladies again Friday night so I'm not unpacking a thing. Nope. One thing is for sure, I won't be bringing as much with me though! I think I took enough to supply a room full of scrappers! That realization came to light when someone asked if anyone had glitter and I produced some! LOL Now that's sad!!

I'll get the layouts I worked on scanned later this week and posted. I'm going out of town tomorrow and won't be returning until late Wednesday evening. ---- see below ----

Speaking of grandchildren, I'm off to Tennessee in the morning to finish getting the house ready for Jarrob aka JW, and his mommy and daddy. He is 3 1/2 months old, was born in Italy and his Nanna is dying to see him! I get to meet them at the airport late Tuesday night and will take them to their new home with my sister-in-law. Lynda has worked non-stop for 2 weeks to get her rental house ready for them and I can't wait to see the look on thier faces when they walk in the door. I'm going to fill the fridge before they get there and once we drop them off Tuesday night, I'll come back home.

Ok, it's late and time for me to head to bed before my second wind kicks in. I definetely need to get some good rest tonight before my long drive tomorrow. My only wish is I was driving east instead of north...but that's okay, that time is coming too. :)

This Nanna is beat and way to old for all this excitement!
